Simple Strawberry Tart

After a long break, I’m back…hopefully for good this time! I’ve been busy with work..I still am but I’m planning to manage my time more efficiently!

I went home, to Istanbul for two weeks and I had a great, but short holiday! Will post on that later with lots of gorgeous pics! :

Todays post is with one of my favorites fruits…Strawberries!!

I have a friend…I think it’s safe to call her a friend although we only met through Instagram :)

She’s a blogger in New York;  NY’s Delight . A while ago she posted this recipe that she adapted from Gail Simmons’s Talking with My Mouth Full, and being a strawberry lover myself, I got to the kitchen!

The Best Carrot Cake EVER!

My sister-in-law Betul makes the best carrot cake I have ever tasted..and I’m not exaggerating. I know that when ever my brother’s friends want to hang out at his place, she always stocks up on this deliciousness!! And they always finish it to the last crumb!

I’ve been wanting to get the recipe from her for a long time but never got the chance…until recently…

…and when I made it for the first time, A) I was so excited and B) I couldn’t believe at how easy it was to make!!!

I thought I was doing something wrong…but when it was finally done…Oh my God..yumminess at it’s maximum. It’s no secret that I love and prefer chocolate cakes..but I think this is one cake that can compete with a luscious chocolate cake!! :))

Stuffed Bread Bites

I woke up one day…not recent..and I wanted to bake bread. But not just bread..I had an idea. My brother-in-law had gifted us these marinated and pitted olives and semi-dried cherry tomatoes in olive oil. And I just needed to use them with this bread. I thought of using a bread recipe from my mom’s recipe book and stuffing the bread dough using olives, tomatoes, and crumbled feta cheese mixed with dried thyme. But I wasn’t exactly sure how I wanted to shape them…did I want to roll them into stuffed balls? Or make a larger bread like the Braided Herb Bread?? Finally, remembering this Turkish rose baklava type dessert that mom makes, I decided to use the same concept..and they were great! The flavors were perfect for bread! And it was so breakfasty! (is that even a word? I have a red wiggly line under that so I guess not :P)

I leave you to with the pictures and description..

Chewy Chocolate Cookies

You know when you have a cookie, or cake, or any other dessert, and it tastes great..but it’s so decadent that although you want to have more, you just can’t?? Well…these cookies aren’t anything like that. In fact, have as many as you want…and you’ll still want more, and best’ll be able to have more! ;))

A few months ago my sister sent me a picture of a pack of Reese’s Peanut Butter Baking Chips and asked if I wanted any…she was at a supermarket in Riyadh…which is very far from where I live…and well, this particular item was not available anywhere else! Anyway, I found my sister’s question quite insulting!! Do I want some?? DO I???? REALLY?? :o

Cabbage Salad with Peanuts

I love a good salad…especially one that has a lot of crunch in it! Mom tried this salad at her friend’s house…and when she told me about it, I just thought..oh ok…a salad..

The thing is, the sauce sounded a bit odd to me..a bit of honey a bit of mustard…I just couldn’t wrap my head around it!! But then she made it!! And I absolutely fell in love with it!

Mille-Feuille with Strawberries

Do these look good or what???? And they taste even better!!! First mille-feuille I ate was made by my mother. Sometimes she would mix chopped up fresh peaches into the cream..YUM! :))

I made these with strawberries…and for those who are wondering, that serving dish is my mothers :D I gave it back after the photo shoot! (UPDATE: She bought me one too!! :))

Puff Pastry Twirl Borek!!

One of the first  recipes I posted was the Rose Borek…a savory pastry rolled and shaped somewhat into a twirl..

Well…then my mom showed me this nice and easy twist to the rose borek…Puff Pastry Twirl Borek…not only is it soooo easy to make, but it tastes fantastic!! :)) I’ve tried these with a potato stuffing and with a feta cheese stuffing..this particular recipe is with feta cheese.. If you’re having people over and you want to make something speedy (and if you have puff pastry at hand), this is a great option…

Fun to make..even more fun to eat!!! :))

Cheesecake Slices

All I can say at this moment is FINALLY FINALLY FINALLY!!! And I can’t say it enough! I have all these piled up recipes and I thought I made a plan that I would be posting at least two recipes per week…but as you can see, I have failed…miserably!!! :((

Thing is, I started working recently…and after a long break from the daily routine of a job, I have to re-adjust and get used to this 8 – 5 routine..and I am struggling! It’s really not easy going from living the life of leisure to coming home and just being a log! Literally! Lately, all I can think about is, what speedy dish can I prepare for dinner! I haven’t baked in a week..and in this household, that is something that does not happen!!

NY Times Chocolate Chip Cookies

About a week ago, I saw a retweet of a link and the title was NY Times Chocolate Chip Cookies….I’m always on the quest for a really good Chocolate Chip Cookie recipe, so naturally, I clicked on it and it took me to The Perfectionist.

After reading the recipe, knew right away…These were the cookies I was looking for, I could feel it!! And due to my lack of chocolate chips (even I run out of chocolate chips sometimes), I couldn’t make them right away…but I did make them eventually…YAAAAAY is an understatement!! This is my newfound favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe! Everyone that has tasted these would agree :))
